An Urban Sanctuary for Recovery in Whittier

A treatment center on Greenleaf Avenue built to feel like a refuge inside the city — outdoor nature paths, sunrise programming, and a clinical model rooted in 18 years of Southern California research and practice.

Welcome to TMC Rehab

TMC Rehab opened on Greenleaf Avenue in 2008 as a clinical spinoff from a Southern California university research program studying long-term outcomes in addiction treatment. The clinicians who ran the original studies wanted a place where the practices that actually worked could be delivered every day, not just published in a journal.

Eighteen years and 7,200 patients later, our 76-person team still includes researchers from the founding cohort. Our 40-bed Whittier campus offers something rare in greater Los Angeles: an outdoor sanctuary inside a walkable city, with nature paths, a swimming pool, a sauna, and the quiet that recovery requires.

Why Choose TMC Rehab

Research-Backed Clinical Model

Born from a university research program. Our protocols are reviewed quarterly against current outcomes data — not held in place because they're tradition.

Veterans & First Responders Track

Specialized programming for service members, police, fire, and EMT — clinicians trained in occupational trauma and the specific pressures of those careers.

Outdoor Sanctuary in the City

Sunrise nature walks, outdoor fitness, swimming pool, sauna. Recovery here is paced by the morning light, not by the clock alone.

Vocational Rehabilitation Built In

Discharge planning includes employment coaching, resume rebuilds, and partnerships with local employers across Whittier and East LA.

Our Treatment Programs

Medical detox

Medical Detox

3–7 days of 24-hour medical supervision in a quiet detox unit set back from the street. Withdrawal protocols developed from our original research and updated as evidence evolves.

Stories of Recovery

"After two deployments and a decade of drinking on top of PTSD, I'd written off the idea of peace. The veterans track at TMC was the first place where my service trauma and my drinking were treated as one thing, by people who understood both. Eighteen months sober. Sleep is back. So is my marriage."

— Marcus T., veteran-finding-peace arc

"I'm a paramedic. After 14 years on the rig, I was self-medicating with alcohol and benzos to sleep through what I'd seen on shift. TMC's first-responder programming didn't ask me to stop being a paramedic — it gave me tools to keep doing the job without the chemicals. I'm back at work and clean."

— Inez R., first-responder-recovery arc

"My addiction cost me trust with my wife and our two kids. TMC's family programming gave us a real plan for rebuilding — not platitudes, but weekly sessions, accountability work, and slow, repeated proof. Three years later, my daughter calls me when she has a hard day. That's the metric that matters."

— Daniel P., family-rebuilder arc
